Managed Moodle hosting

Moodle hosting in Guyana, looked after for you.

A Moodle site for your school or lessons centre in Guyana, set up with your subjects and kept running by us: hosting, backups, updates and security. Nobody on your staff has to become a server administrator.

Running Moodle yourself

Moodle is free. Running it is not.

Anyone can download Moodle. What a school takes on with it is a job: a server to keep up, upgrades to apply, backups to take and records to protect. In most schools it ends up being nobody’s job, and that is how a school site goes out of date and stops being used.

  • A server, and someone watching it

Moodle needs a web server, a database and background tasks that run on a schedule. When one of them stops, parts of the site quietly stop with it.

  • Upgrades that cannot wait for ever

Moodle and its plugins release new versions and security fixes through the year. A site left alone for a year falls behind, and a site that is behind is a risk.

  • Backups, kept somewhere else

Courses, marks and a year of handed-in work. If the only copy is on the machine that failed, it is gone.

  • Security, because it holds children’s records

Logins for students, marks and contact details for parents. Somebody has to keep the doors shut.

Managed Moodle hosting

What you get from Doctrina.

A customised Moodle learning platform, built around the NGSA and CSEC syllabuses, that we set up for you and look after from then on.

  • Set up around your school

Your subjects laid out by term, and logins for students, parents and teachers. Ready to use in a few weeks.

  • Your material moved across, once

The notes, worksheets and past papers you already have, brought in at the start so nobody begins from an empty site.

  • Hosting, backups, updates and security

All kept with us from then on. Nobody on your staff has to become a Moodle administrator.

  • Everything a teacher uses day to day

Quizzes that mark themselves, assignments handed in online, one gradebook, badges and certificates, forums and live classes.

    The full list
  • Readiness reporting, built in

The part plain Moodle does not have. It reads the papers students sit and says who is ready for NGSA and CSEC, and who is not yet.

    See a sample report
  • Built for the connections students have

Papers are sat online, and built to hold up on poor and unstable connections.

Why Moodle at all

It is open source and used by universities around the world. A student who learns on it at school walks into first year already knowing the system, and because it is open source, nothing about your courses is tied to us.

Questions

What people ask first.

  • How long does it take to set up?

A few weeks from the first conversation. We set up your subjects and everyone’s logins, and move the material you already have across once at the start.

  • Do we need anyone technical on staff?

No. Hosting, backups, updates and security stay with us. Your teachers need to know how to teach with it, not how to run it.

  • Who owns the courses and the student records?

You do. You own the content and the data, nothing is locked in, and you can take it with you.

  • Will it work for students on a weak connection?

Papers are sat online and built to hold up on poor and unstable connections, because that is the connection plenty of students have.

  • We already use Google Classroom. Do we have to move to Moodle?

No. If what you run works for you, keep it. We connect the readiness reporting to it instead of replacing it.

  • How much does Moodle hosting cost?

It depends on how many students you have and what you teach. Tell us both and we will tell you what it would cost.

Bring one class,
one paper, one afternoon.

Tell us what you teach and how many students you have. We will show you the system set up with your own subjects in it, and what a readiness report looks like.

Doctrina Education builds and runs learning platforms for schools and tutors in Guyana and across the Caribbean, for the NGSA and CSEC syllabuses as they are actually examined.
